I am very excited to announce the results for the 2017 KAERA Graduate Student & Young Scholar Paper Award.
Graduate Student Paper Award
Award Winner: *Jung Sook Kim (Ohio State University) “Disrupting Dominant Language Ideologies: L2 Learners’ Discursive Strategies for Identity Negotiation.”
Finalists: Jin Lee and Jihye Oh (Texas A&M University), “Human Resource Development of the Korean Military: A Systematic Literature Review”; Rayoung Song (University of Massachusetts – Amherst), “Transnational Students’ Identity Construction and Future Educational Trajectories: A Korean-Guatemalan Case.”
Young Scholar Paper Award
Award Winner: *Hyonsuk Cho (University of North Dakota) and X. Christine Wang (State University of New York at Buffalo) “An Ethnographic Case Study of a Bilingual Child’s Ethnic Identity Construction.”
Honorable Mention: Cheon-woo Han, Susan P. Farruggia and Bonnie J. Solomon (University of Illinois at Chicago), “Effects of High School Students’ Noncognitive Factors on Their Performance and Success at College.”
Finalists: Sang Joon Lee, Charlie Wilder, and Chien Yu, (Mississippi State University), “Exploring Student Experiences in a Service-Learning Project of an Undergraduate Course”; Katie Koo and Reina Park (Northern Arizona University), “Social Life as a Predictor of Psychological Well-being among International College Students.”
Congratulations to Jung Sook Kim & Hyonsuk Cho for their outstanding work! We had many excellent papers nominated this year and the committee had a very difficult decision. A special thanks to this year’s committee, Byeong-Young Cho and Hosun Kang. Also thanks to this years’ program co-chairs, Jungwhan Kim and Kyungbin Kwon. Note that the 2017 KAERA Graduate Student & Young Scholar Paper Award will be presented during the KAERA Business Meeting, Thursday (April 27) night at 6:10 pm- 7:00 pm, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, San Antonio.
